IONA KEWNEY
Knights of the Invisible is Iona Kewney and Joseph Quimby. They joined forces in 2009 and have been creating works internationally as a duo ever since.
Iona as Artistic Director, Choreographer, Visual artist, Performance artist, Dancer and Teacher.
Joseph as Composer, Musician and Actor.
Together they are a radical dance company of hyper realist detail and surrealist vision engaged in the physical, sonic and emotional language of life.
They create visionary worlds of live art.
Their performances are a fragile journey of interconnected life and death. A transitory live happening; viscerally present, and yet both deeply ancient and futuristic. They challenge the limits and edges of existence to points of transformation and metamorphosis. Their unorthodox and idiosyncratic methods unite with an unspoken magic, sensitivity and vivid imagination.

Knights of the Invisible create raw visionary worlds of performance art.
Their visceral connection conjures an emotional atmosphere housing both physical and psychological tension. They weave the pores of existence into a sonic physical journey.
Metaphysical and ritualistic matter fuel the work.
They are the white noise of many charactered selves.
Their open technique exposes them to transformation and chance in time and space.
Iona and Joseph’s methods balance on the borderlines of extremes and fragility.
Their practise weighs on the edges of change where different energies and emotion accumulate to transcend daily life into surrealist territory.
The combined ‘force major’ imagines a world bigger than both of them. At once both primeval and futuristic.
The music is composed as a network of energy states and vocal passion. A magnetic soundscape touching and colliding in the atmosphere uniting Joseph and Iona. Connecting and echoing their souls, surrounding environment and dreamworlds. The taste of the vibrating atmosphere shaping physical imagery in the space.
Their dance is the theatre of life.

Iona is a regular guest teacher at major universities and schools of Performing arts throughout Europe.
She also teaches Professional dance and circus workshops and is frequently invited as personal artistic mentor to international artists and choreographers from a variety of disciplines.
